Sharing and receiving

There's something about the human condition that makes us reliant on the generosity of other people.

Some may consider it frailty - but we know we just can't go through life's journey without help from family, friends, or strangers.

Whether it's the person who helps you when your car won't start, a colleague who stays late to help you with a project, or a family member who sacrifices to care for an aging parent – these situations don't emphasize our weaknesses.

Happy Holidays from Mapping Your Future snow globe sceneThese situations emphasize that we, as frail humans, can put aside our own considerations to help others and as recipients can graciously and gratefully accept those kindnesses. You see this practiced every day by financial aid professionals. Anyone who monitors the online forums, listservs and social media sees it but I'm sure it's happening just as much offline. Financial aid professionals are quick to answer questions, give advice, or share camaraderie with one another.

Of all the communities I've known through the years, it's those who work in financial aid who are perhaps the best at truly understanding the true spirit of giving and receiving.

Thank you for all you've done this year to help one another and may you have a joyous holiday season.
