FAFSA delay and impact on financial aid deadlines

Although many students are parents are anxiously awaiting the release of the 2024-25 FAFSA, they should have plenty of time to complete it once it is available at the end of December.
The 2024-25 FAFSA release has been delayed until late December due to legislative changes mandated by Congress to simplify the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education has said it will be available by December 31.
Although there’s plenty of time to complete the new FAFSA once it’s released, students and parents should be aware of any priority deadlines established by their school or college for the awarding of institutional aid.
Some institutions have pushed back their deadline due to the FAFSA delay but students and parents should check with their school or college to be sure of the priority deadline for the 2025-25 FAFSA.
