More 2024-25 FAFSA delays for students, parents, and schools

Students may not receive financial aid offers until sometime after mid-March, based on 2024-25 FAFSA timeline changes announced today by the U.S. Department of Education.

In an announcement released this morning, the Department of Education said it needs to adjust the financial aid formula to account for inflation. This change is necessary, the Department said, to ensure that students and families receive the aid to which they are entitled.

Earlier this month, some national media outlets pointed out that the Department of Education had not adjusted its tables in the 2024-25 FAFSA formula to account for inflation increases (as required by FAFSA legislation).

To make those corrections, however, it means delaying sending any student FAFSA information to schools, colleges, and universities for determining financial aid offers.

In addition to the delay in receiving financial aid offers, students and parents will also face delays in receiving the FAFSA Submission Summary, which summarizes their information and provides information on aid eligibility. And the delay impacts their ability to make any necessary corrections or changes to their FAFSA information.
